LPHS Activity Period
The activity period will be a 25 minute time for students to attend the scheduled class period to receive additional assistance from their classroom teacher. Student clubs will also hold meetings during this time that students may attend if they are a member of the club. All students are expected to be in their assigned class unless otherwise attending a scheduled club meeting. Students will be permitted to use their personal electronic devices during the activity period. Any student needing to go to the library during the activity period must be signed up in advance (see Synergy e-mail with sign-up links).

| AAPI | This club has been established for students to reflect upon aspects of their heritage- including music, dance, and foods (packaged, if any are sampled in school). It is a club where students can meet others of their same heritage and share experiences, spend time together, and bond. |
| Achieve With Us! | Come and visit and socialize with our Achieve students. We will have a variety of different activities like indoor and outdoor games as well as crafts or making a snack. You never know what we might be up to but it will be fun! Our Achieve students love to make new friends so come and hang out with us. Space is limited! |
| Art Club | Art club is a place to be creative. Students should come prepared with an idea of what they would like to make. |
| Athletic Mentoring-Wrestling | Students who are members of the wrestling program meet with Coach Pankhurst to review academic standing, game film, research college opportunities, and develop both comradery and leadership skills. |
| Better Together | Better Together: the La Plata Inclusion Alliance is both a student club and a staff committee with the purpose of making sure that all students and staff feel represented and have a sense of belonging inβ―the La Plata High School community overall. Our mission is to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive school community where diversity is celebrated, equity is upheld, and all individuals are valued, respected, and empowered. |
| Core Strength and Stretching | Students will participate in a structured workout that will strengthen the 'core' (abs and lower back) and will also perform stretching exercises that will improve flexibility. |
| Disc Golf | Enjoy the sport of Disc Golf! Learn to play, enjoy the outdoors, organize a league, fundraise to get a permanent course for LPHS. |
| Dungeons and Dragons | Dungeons & Dragons is a creative tabletop role-playing game that takes players on an epic journey through a fantasy world, where imagination and teamwork are the only limits. Players act as their characters, making decisions and solving problems, while the Dungeon Master narrates the story and challenges the players |
| Educators Rising | Do you want to work with children one day? If so, then check out Educators Rising, a part of the education fraternity PDK International! Our chapter works to reimagine educator pathways by inspiring and growing current and rising educators to become community leaders and advocates for high quality education. Throughout the school year, we incorporate the following five core values into our work: Community, Leadership, Service, Optimism, and Excellence. Ed Rising members compete in local, state, & national competitions that involve different activities like using teaching strategies, creating children’s books, and various challenges about working with children. |
| Envirothon | MD Dept of Agriculture sponsored event. Focused on the outdoors and all natural resources in our region. The team will compete with other CCPS High School students on their academic and hands on knowledge of MD ecology. |

| Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) | We especially love supporting our Warrior athletes but you don't have to play a sport to come! FCA is all about support and encouragement and we often have speakers who come to share about how their faith impacts their athletics and life. We meet during Activity Period 4 in the Auditorium. All are welcome! |
| Film Analysis | In this club, we will experiment with film, movie making, media literacy, and enjoy watching a variety of films from diverse time periods and perspectives. We will look at scenes from various films and shows that are apart of our cultural zeitgeist and look at how/why those patterns and references/allusions appear throughout other media forms. |
| Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) | Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) helps high school students prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs. |

| MESA | Maryland MESA uses project-based challenges to teach participating students the fundamentals of engineering and computer science. Student teams work on projects (called challenges) such as programming a game, designing an amusement-park ride, or solving a problem in their community. The teams can then compete against other teams that have worked on the same challenge. The challenges are designed by APL and the National MESA organization to help children develop computer programming and engineering skills. Winning teams at each Regional Competition are invited to compete at MESA Day, an annual competition held in each MESA state, which provides students with the opportunity to design and build projects, win medals, learn by doing, and interact with each other as well as STEM professionals." | Minority Student Union | The Minority Student Union is a student-led organization dedicated to promoting unity, representation, and empowerment among students. We provide a safe, supportive space for students to share experiences, celebrate diverse cultures, and engage in open dialogue about issues affecting minority communities. Through cultural events, education, and community outreach, MSU strives to foster inclusivity and create positive change. | Mock Trial | This is a competitive club that primarily meets after school on Fridays from 2:30 to 4, in addition to the Activity Period meetings. Students learn courtroom and trial procedures, then compete against schools at trials. |
| Music Makers | "For Guitarists, Bassists, Singers, DJs, rappers, keyboardist, drummers or any other aspiring musicians looking to jam, battle, learn, and create music of any style." |
| National Honor Society | This club is for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who have already been inducted into the National Honor Society. Students will be notified in November if they are eligible to seek membership. |
| NEHS (National English Honors Society) | Juniors and Seniors who apply and are accepted into NEHS will meet periodically during the scheduled time. These students will participate in providing feedback in The Writing Center and complete other literacy-based activities throughout the year. |
| Peer Mentoring Program | Students who are selected will meet for academic and social assistance. |
| Polyglot - French | The Polyglot games are a set of team-based language competitions between representatives from middle schools and high schools in the county. The goal of our club is to show students a real-world application of languages skill using games as the format. If you are looking to improve your French skills and love to compete, this is the club for you! |
| Polyglot - Spanish | Come practice your Spanish skills while playing fun games! We play and practice the games leading up to a competition against other Charles County High Schools in March. Great way to build your vocabulary and skills! |
| SADD | SADD is a student lead organization that focuses on promoting healthy choices and preventing risky behaviors among peers. This is done through planning and executing events or campaigns to raise awareness about issues like substance abuse, drunk driving, and other destructive behaviors |
| Science NHS | The Science National Honor Society (SNHS) recognizes high school students who demonstrate excellence in science and a commitment to scientific inquiry and community service. Members participate in science-related activities, promote STEM education, and uphold academic integrity while fostering a passion for discovery. |
| SGA | If you like having a say in what happens at La Plata High School, consider joining SGA! SGA provides students the opportunity to get involved in decisions at the school, county and state level of education. SGA is responsible for planning spirit days, Homecoming and Prom each year. The club is also a great way to meet new friends, network with other future leaders in the county and state, and begin developing leadership roles for your resume. |

| Show Troupe/ Show Choir | Show Troupe is a club and class where students get to take the lead on the music they perform. We are looking for people who love to dance, sing, and perform. There are also positions for show troupe that work behind the scenes creating crew magic through sound, lighting, costumes, and make-up. |
| Step Team | Established in March 2018, The LPHS Step Team has been active for nearly 5 years. We have participated in performances at pep rallies and various events here at La Plata High School. The step team has performed at elementary and middle schools, multicultural events, and community functions around the DMV area. Stepping has roots in African dance and military marching. It is a form of percussive dance in which the participants' entire body is used as an instrument and combines footsteps, claps, synchronized movements and spoken words to produce complex rhythms. |
| Student Athlete Leadership Council | LPHS Student-athletes from grades 9-12 that focuses on leadership development, student advocacy, community engagement, and collaboration with the athletic department to improve the student-athlete experience. (Interested athletes should speak to their coaches if interested in being a part of the program) |

| The Writing Center | This is a space to receive feedback on writing assignments. Students can bring their work to receive help from a teacher or a peer. Students may also submit their assignments digitally to receive feedback from a peer within 24-48 hours. |
| Thespian Society | Thespian Society is simply a fancy term for Theatre Club! If you enjoy performing on stage or working behind the scenes on a production then this is the club for you! Don't wait until your Senior year to join because you will regret it. Make memories to last a lifetime...join Theatre! |
| Tri-M Music Honor Society | Tri-M is the La Plata Chapter of the National Music Honor Society. Any student currently enrolled in a music class is eligible to apply. Returning students do not have to reapply each year. Admissions to the group is rolling but will be cut off once we leave for Spring Break. | Unplugged | Unplugged is the La Plata High School A Capella group. This student-led auditioned group sings music without accompaniment. We are looking for a new beatboxer! Tryout information will be shared at our first meeting. If you are interested, pleasse email Ms. G for what to practice to prepare. |
| Video Game Club | This is a space for gamers to bond, play games, and relax! |
| Warrior Minds Matter | Warrior Minds Matter is a student-led group focused on creating a community that is supportive of mental health issues. We are part of the national Our Minds Matter organization, which is working toward the day when no teen dies by suicide. |
| Weight Training club | Students will be taught the proper technique for a variety of basic weight training exercises and will complete a written workout during the club. This is NOT an "open gym" type of club for students to do their own workout. Athletic shoes must be worn to participate. |
| Welcoming Warriors | We help students feel connected, supported, and confident as they transition into high school. Through connection, collaboration, and community, we make La Plata a place where everyone belongs. Why We Exist: 1. Help Freshmen & New Students Adjust to LPHS 2. Build friendships across grade levels 3. Create a welcoming community atmosphere. Currently, we run the lunch buddies program and are part of the welcoming team here at LPHS. | World Lang HS | World Language Honor Society is for students in levels 3, 4, and AP of a language class. Spanish 3 students will apply later in the year and are not yet eligible. Spanish 4 and AP students who were accepted last year are required to attend meetings during activity period. |
| Yearbook Club | Members are tasked with helping to create content that will be used in the yearbook. They take pictures and help with articles and captions. Students must be responsible and trustworthy! |
